McCain After The Potomac Primaries

The GOP candidacy is all but locked up for Sen. John McCain.  After emerging from the Potomac primaries with a huge win this last Tuesday, Republican endorsements came flying in.  Mike Huckabee is refusing to bow out of the GOP race.  It seems the best thing for the Republican party would be to have one confirmed candidate, to officially begin to strategize their campaign against the Democratic party candidate.  That candidate will most likely be Sen. Hillary Clinton or Sen. Barack Obama.  Both of whom will challenge McCain much more than any of current or former Republican candidates.

In an article on CNN.com, GOP leaders call Republican race for McCain, it is mathematically impossible for Huckabee to win the Republican nomination.  As much as I respect someone for their determination and perseverance, the best possible scenario for the Republican party is for Huckabee to bow out.

McCain has earned the respect of some in the Republican party with his hard-nosed, no-quit mentality.  But, I think you could say the same thing for Huckabee.  I suspect that Huckabee is not staying in this race to win the Republican nomination (this time), but to earn a possible role as McCain’s Vice President.
